The Vintage Accessories Guide for Milan

Gloves, belts, sunglasses, hats — the accessories rail is where vintage is still genuinely cheap and still genuinely good. Milan is the city where a slightly worn Italian label still outranks anything new. Here is how to wear a vintage accessory in Milan, where to find one worth keeping, and what to check before you hand over the cash.

Why Accessories Matter Now

Gloves, belts, sunglasses, hats — the accessories rail is where vintage is still genuinely cheap and still genuinely good. These are the details that make an outfit look assembled rather than bought.

Milan is the city where a slightly worn Italian label still outranks anything new.

How to Wear It

A proper leather belt with a heavy buckle upgrades every pair of trousers you own.

Old sunglasses sit closer to the face. Choose a frame narrower than feels safe.

Leather gloves with a plain coat is the cheapest way to look expensive in winter.

Where to Find Yours in Milan

  • Cavalli e Nastri (Via Brera 2) — the archive shop — Prada, Ferragamo, Versace, from around 20 euros
  • Humana Vintage (Via Cappellari 3) — bargain rails, worth two passes, from around 45 euros
  • Bivio Milano (Via Colonnetta 5) — curated resale, refreshed weekly, from around 60 euros
  • Madame Pauline Vintage (Foro Buonaparte 74) — high-end, appointment-friendly, from around 90 euros

Go on a weekday morning if you can. The rails are fullest before the weekend crowd arrives, and staff have time to show you what came in overnight.

What to Look For

Belts should be full-grain leather — check the cut edge for layers, which means bonded and will crack. On sunglasses, look at the hinges: metal barrels beat moulded plastic. For hats, check the sweatband for a maker's name and make sure the felt has not gone soft and shapeless.

One last thing: try it on properly, walk around in it, and sit down. A vintage accessory that only works standing still is not going to survive your actual life.
